“Jesus has been found worthy of greater honor than Moses, just as the builder of a house has greater honor than the house itself. 4 For every house is built by someone, but God is the builder of everything.” – Hebrews 3:3-4

Merry Christmas!

Can you believe that this Sunday is the start of the Christmas week?! How will you celebrate? What traditions are you looking forward to keeping this year? Speaking of traditions, have you ever tried to start a tradition only to have it bite the dust? A number of years back, before there were four Ling boys, I tried to build a gingerbread house with my oldest son, Ty. I thought, “Hey, this will be fun. And if all goes well, it can be something we do again each year.”  It was a great idea in theory, but let’s just say that I may have held back Ty and I from earning any builder awards. Looking at the verse above, to say we had more glory than the house we built was not saying much.

But when you think about the house that God built, well that is an entirely different story! He is the builder of everything, and indeed He has built a house filled with a faithful household!  As we think of Christmas in light of our Courageous Calling series, the author of Hebrews is making it clear that Jesus is greater than Moses. While Moses is at the top of the faithful household that God had built, Jesus is greater because He is the actual builder of that household.

This week, beginning on Sunday morning, we celebrate the coming of the Builder. We celebrate the birth of the Son who not only built the house but also came to save it. Wow! What a thought!  Moses was born and called to release God’s household from slavery, while Jesus was born with the calling to rescue and redeem God’s household unto salvation. Wow! What a truth!

I am so fired up for this Sunday! This week, we are in Matthew 2. It is most famously known for the story of the wisemen visiting Jesus. Take some time to read the whole chapter and ask yourself, beyond the star, how did the wisemen know where to find Jesus? Another question would be how does all this fit into our Courageous Calling series?  O’ man, I cannot wait for you to see how the story of Christmas is written all throughout your Bible.

Also this Sunday, we are really excited about our choir leading us in worship. You won’t want to miss any of it so make sure you get here early in time for the prelude!
